Consciously made
Is the clothing you wear causing you harm?
At Noir we're increasingly concerned by research showing that tiny plastic particles from cheap synthetic fabrics and 'recycled from bottles' materials don't just pollute rivers and oceans, they also shed into the air you breathe and the food you eat when you wear and wash them, allowing microplastics to accumulate in the body and potentially harm your long term health.
Instead of chasing the lowest cost or the most marketable 'eco' story, we carefully try to choose higher quality, lower shedding materials and work with responsible partners so our products are designed to respect both the planet and the people who live in it.
That's why we are visiting new factories in Portugal, continuing our quest to make the perfect trouser and other life enhancing clothing. Not only are we checking out the latest eco conscious fabrics but we are also meeting potential partners who are at the forefront of measuring traceability and environmental impact. It's part of our aim to keep materials that are bad for us away from our skin.
Responsible sourcing focus
We will be working with them on responsible sourcing, traceability and fair working conditions throughout our supply chain, prioritising lower impact materials, transparent partnerships and circular design choices that extend garment life an reduce waste.
Innovative materials and making
Noir's base layers, scarves and gloves are made using advanced knitting technology and carefully selected fibres to support responsible, ethical production minimising offcuts, reducing energy use where possible and prioritising long lasting wear over short term trends.
Shima Seiki seamless engineering
Noir’s base layers are knitted on Japanese Shima Seiki machines in fine gauge merino for a soft, versatile second skin, with seamless 3D construction that cuts material waste and gives a smooth, chafe free fit with excellent freedom of movement.
Noir’s scarves and gloves are also knitted on Japanese Shima Seiki machines to reduce material waste.
Wear longer wash less
Merino naturally resists odour, so it can be worn more times between washes, helping cut down water and energy use over the life of the garment.
Care guidance for all our products focuses on mindful laundering practices shown to reduce a garment’s environmental impacts, such as washing less often and at lower temperatures.
Local deliveries
Being small and London‑based cyclists means local deliveries can go by bicycle, so virtually all nearby orders are shipped free of charge, with a lower carbon footprint. For London customers, a curated selection of colours and sizes can also be cycled over free of charge, to be tried on in person, helping to avoid wasteful returns.
Packaging
Our packaging is made from recycled, recyclable or reusable materials.
